Book Review "Ears Wide Open" by Malachi Talabi

There have been timeless controversies around the theme "I heard God" or "God told me", which has resulted in a questionable stance assumed by church and non-church goers every time they hear these words. Question is does God really speak? How do we recognise His voice if He does? Is there any specific formula or principle to hearing Him? Answers might just have come from South London!

Ears Wide Open, the book by Malachi Talabi can be likened to a manual which demonstrates tested and tried principles of hearing God's voice. Drawn from his personal experiences, Malachi sets out to share his personal revelations in his walk with God and how it has transformed his life.

First, the book introduced the fact that God's original plan for man was "fellowship with Him, to hear Hs voice,  and to bring Him glory". This would sound bizarre and out of this world; hearing God should be reserved for the Clerics, the "Men of God" and some privileged few.

But Malachi states in this book that "..God is not shy - He is more eager to speak to us than we are even to hear."

The book goes on to describe how God speaks in chapters four to eight - Vocal, visual, emotional, directional and written. The principles outlined on recognising God's voice and getting rid of "earwax" makes for a humorous yet important subject in the book.

My favourtie excerpts from the book are
"There is a difference between ministry and intimacy - ministry is what we do, intimacy is what we cultivate"
"God's voice turns children into champions and geeks into giants"
"...God speaks a word in seed form and He wants a harvest from it"

For every original, there exists a counterfeit. Ears Wide Open explains how to avoid misconceptions on hearing God's voice and principles to test if what is heard is genuine or a vain imagination.

From an unassuming and modest background, Malachi Talabi has emerged as a "jack of many trades" and has mastered them.  As a successful entrepreneur, author, speaking coach and award-winning public speaker, he attributes his successes to his ability to hear God and follow His instructions. Malachi has released other books and materials which I hope to review soon.

There are numerous questions which the world requires answers to. As the world seeks answers to the global crisis and recession, this book might just be the answer to these questions.

  1. Great review Niyi...brings about curiousity and makes me wanna grab the book to read. From your review, Malachi addresses a topic that not only unbelievers worry about but a subject matter which some Christian may still wonder about or question from time to time. I will definitely be recommending this book to the folks at www.divareaders.com. :)

Bless you Niyi for a great review.
